Katherine Jean Kirby, “Kathy,” 77, a resident of Shelton, Connecticut, passed away on August 1, 2024, at the Hewitt Health and Rehabilitation Center in Shelton.

Kathy was born on July 2, 1947, in Mt. Vernon, New York, the daughter of the late Jean Tompkins Kirby and Theodore B. Kirby. She grew to adulthood in Stamford, Connecticut and is a graduate of Stamford Catholic High School.

Kathy lost her mother at a young age, but she was supported their whole lives long by the love of her father and of two close relatives, Marie Graham Jane Hoerner and Kristin Lent.

Kathy worked as a secretary for the law firm of Cummings & Lockwood and for the Pitney Bowes Company, both in Stamford. A talented pianist and organist, Kathy played the organ in several Stamford churches. A devout Catholic, Kathy was a member of the Secular Franciscan Order for many years, most recently in the Rosa Mystica Fraternity, a community in which she was at home and at peace.

Kathy is survived by her brother Bill and his wife Yvette, of Lexington, Massachusetts; her nephew Ted and his wife Terra, of East Longmeadow, Massachusetts; and her niece Elizabeth and her husband Kuan, and their daughter Yvie Marie, of Oakland, California.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, August 27, at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine Church, 35 Washington Avenue, Seymour, Connecticut. Internment will take place at 2 p.m. in Woodland Cemetery in Stamford.

The family would like to thank the nurses, aides, and administrators at Hewitt Health and Rehabilitation Center for their care and concern for Kathy over the past five years. We are deeply grateful to Pat and Bill Wilkins and Pat Reynolds, of the Rosa Mystica Fraternity, who befriended and cared for Kathy for more than a decade.

Kathy was a loving and caring soul who will be missed by all who knew her.
