Allan F. Yaeger, the beloved husband of Gretchen Denk Yaeger, entered into eternal rest peacefully on Saturday, January 14, 2023 with his loving family by his side at Griffin Hospital in Derby. He was born in Stamford on May 15, 1939, son of the late Joseph and Gladys Swita Yaeger. Allan was active in baseball, basketball and softball throughout his life. In 1951, he was a member of the Stamford All-Star team that won the Little League World Series Championship in Williamsport, PA. and in 1954, he was also a member of the Stamford World Series Champion Babe Ruth team . Allan went on to attend St. Basil Prep in Stamford where he played for the 1957 Class C CIAC Championship baseball team. After high school, he attended Michigan State University before signing a contract with the Boston Red Sox, playing professionally for 4 years in their minor league system. After his time with the Red Sox, he joined the Raybestos Cardinals fast pitch softball team of the Atlantic Seaboard League. He played 14 years, winning four National ASA fast pitch tournaments. Allan was named to three All American teams as an outfielder and was the 1971 National ASA Tournament's batting champion with a .455 average. In 1980 he was inducted into the Connecticut ASA Fast Pitch Hall of Fame and in 2009, he was inducted into the National ASA Hall of Fame. Allan retired as a player in 1982 and started his softball coaching career. He coached the Franklin Cardinals to a 1983 National Championship and then the 1984 Team USA to a bronze medal at the ISF World Tournament in Midland, MI. Allan worked for Pitney Bowes for over 28 years in both their Newtown and Stamford locations, retiring in 2000. After his playing days ended, Allan became a very successful coach leading the Women's Softball teams at both Sacred Heart University and the University of New Haven, where he proudly coached his daughter Allison. Most of all, Allan loved to spend time with his family and many friends. He will be sadly missed by all, but will remain forever in our hearts. His loving family in addition to his wife Gretchen includes his loving daughter Allison Bopp and her husband Brad and his two cherished granddaughters Peyton and Madison . He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Allan was predeceased by his beloved son Gary Yaeger and his caring brother Joseph Yaeger. A Memorial Mass in Celebration of Allan's life will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 10:00 am at the Holy Rosary Church, 10 Father Salemi Drive in Ansonia. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, January 20, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank St (RT 67, across from Klarides Village) in Seymour. Burial will be held in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Allan's memory may be made to the Prostate or Colon Cancer Foundations, through the funeral home or websites.
