Carl Walter Carlson, age 95, of Oxford, the beloved husband of Inez Chase Carlson, entered into rest peacefully on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Sweden on November 26, 1920, son of the late Carl and Alma Martinson Carlson. Carl was a long time resident of Milford until he moved to Oxford in 1966. He proudly served his country during World War II as member of the United States Army Infantry in the American Theatre. Prior to his retirement, Carl worked in the Automotive Services Department for Sears and Roebuck Company. He was an active member of the Oxford United Church of Christ Congregational serving on several boards and committees. Carl was an avid Bee Keeper. He was an instructor for 44 years for the NRA teaching firearms safety. Carl was a Unit Commissioner for the Boy Scouts of America, Housatonic Council, an active member of the Masonic Lodge Ansantawae No. 89 of Milford and a member of the town of Oxford Park and Recreation Commission. He will be sadly missed by all and will remain forever in our hearts. His loving family in addition to this wife Inez includes his son, K.W. Carlson and his wife Barbara of Oxford, his grandchildren, Stephen, Rebecca, Jonathan, David, Kelly, and Thomas, his great-grandchildren, Brittany, Stephen, Nathan, Madison, Brennen, Naeveh, Hannah, Megan, Alexa, and Ava; and his sister, Helen Ward of South Carolina. He was predeceased by his first wife, Dale Speigel Carlson, his daughter, Diane Carlson Keating and his three brothers Richard L. Carlson, Harry A. Carlson, and Bert G. Carlson. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Russell Phelan, Gary Phelan, Suzanne Laskevitch, Cynthia Bradshaw, Marcia Gaffney and Margaret Phelan, several step- grandchildren and nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Oxford United Church of Christ Congregational, 3 Academy Road, Oxford with the Rev. Daniel Hollis, officiating. Military Honors will be accorded following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Carl's memory may be made to the Oxford Church of Christ Congregational, 3 Academy Road, Oxford, CT 06478. .
