Carol Lane Pratt McCauley, age 89, of Beacon Falls, the beloved wife of the late James McCauley, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on December 18, 2021 at Bishop Wicke Health Center in Shelton. She was born in Bridgeport on December 21, 1931, the daughter of the late Maude and Roydon Pratt. Carol graduated from Stratford High School in 1949 and went on to graduate from Western Connecticut State Teachers College in 1958. In 1957, Carol married her high school sweetheart Jim McCauley and in 1959 they moved to Milford to start their family. Carol enjoyed working in the Milford School system as a teacher and paraprofessional, positively touching the lives of hundreds of children, until her retirement in 2008. She lived the life that she always wanted to live, taking pleasure in simple things. Carol loved volunteering in the community through her church, Girl Scouts, 4-H, local fair associations, the Nature Conservancy and most recently the local Food Pantry. She was a member of St. Peter's Church of Oxford, an avid sports fan especially for UCONN Women's Basketball, loved walking, puzzles and Jeopardy but mostly loved being with her grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by family and friends. Carol's family includes her daughter Suzanne Weed and her husband Jim, her sons Robert McCauley and his wife Sharon, Timothy McCauley and his wife Jessica, her sister Barbara Mladinov, her very special grandchildren Ted and his wife Dominika, Megan and her husband Mike, Jack, Sarah, Kelly, Sean and Nate along with several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Jim and daughter Margaret, along with brothers Charles Pratt and Roydon Pratt. A Memorial Service in Celebration of Carol's life will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at 11:00 am at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 421 Oxford Road in Oxford. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carol's memory may be made to the Kathleen C.B. Samela Memorial Food Pantry 56 South Cliff St. Ansonia, Ct. 06401 or to a charity of your choice.
