Charles John McCowen Jr, age 86, of Woodbridge, the beloved husband of 63 years of Doris Mattson McCowen, passed away peacefully on Thursday June 22, 2017 with his family by his side. He was born to Charles Sr. and Marie RaeLoupe McCowen on October 17, 1930 in Waterbury, Connecticut. Mac, as he was lovingly referred to by his family and friends, was a graduate of St Peter & Paul School of Waterbury, Crosby High School of Waterbury and Bryant College of Providence, RI. He worked for the Waterbury Company before serving time in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War for 4 years. Mac retired from Sikorsky Aircraft after 35 years of service working in Accounting and Engineering with his last position as Chief - Contract R&D Proposals. He also served on the Sikorsky Financial Credit Union Board of Directors. Mac was a past member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid reader, enjoyed many sports, and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox. Mac enjoyed his time on Cape Cod and being with family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all, but will remain forever in our hearts. His family in addition to his loving wife and best friend Doris McCowen, includes his daughter Lynn Tinker and her husband Paul, his son Charles McCowen, III and his wife Mary, his cherished granddaughters Christine Tinker Repper and her husband Brian, Cathy Tinker and Caroline McCowen, his nephew Lyle Stream and his nieces Lynda Swanson and Laurie Steam. Mac was preceded by his sisters Dorothe Stream, Ann Costello and Lillian McCowen. The family wishes to thank Dr. Carey & the staff of Avantus Renal Center in North Haven and the Smilow Cancer Center Staff of North Pavilion 11th Floor for the excellent patient care and support to the family during his last days. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Tuesday June 27, 2017 at 10:00 am DIRECTLY at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 81 Center Road, Woodbridge. Interment will follow in the family plot at Northwest Cemetery in Woodbridge. There will be no calling hours. Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made in Mac's memory to the VA Connecticut Healthcare System, 950 Campbell Ave, West Haven, CT 06516.
