Charles Patrick Mulligan, age 95, of Seymour, the beloved husband of the late Catherine Millea Mulligan, entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 8, 2011 at St. Mary Hospital, Waterbury. He was born in East Hartford on January 17, 1916, son of the late James E. and Matilda Clancy Mulligan. Charlie was a devout communicant of St. Augustine Church of Seymour and was a retired Freight Agent for the New Haven Railroad, where he had worked for 39 years. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II, serving with the rank of Tech3 and was a member of the 729th Railway Battalion. Charlie was a member of the VFW of Seymour and was a member of the Railroad Veterans. He was a very active member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Derby Division, who awarded him "Irishman of the Year" and he was also a lifelong avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan. Charlie, who grew up in the Fairhaven section of New Haven, was an avid walker and was known for the hats that he wore. His cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren were his greatest joy. Charlie will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. Charlie's family wishes to thank the staff of Smithfield Gardens Assisted Living for the wonderful care and love given to him. His loving family includes his three sons John Mulligan of North Branford, Paul Mulligan of Ansonia and George Mulligan of Tacoma, WA, his four daughters Kathleen Upson (Peter) of Brentwood, NH, Margaret Turner of Carrollton, TX, Ann Rousseau (Roger) of Burlington, CT and Elizabeth Conrad (David) of Naugatuck, his seven cherished grandchildren Shannon, Heather, Robyn, John, Lindsey, Nicole and Melissa, his six cherished great grandchildren Hannah, Griffin, Porter, Emmett, Max and Charlotte and several loving nieces and nephews. Charlie was predeceased by his brother George Mulligan. A Funeral Service in Celebration of Charlie's life will be held on, Saturday, July 16, 2011 at 10:30 am in the Chapel of the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank Street, (Route 67 across from Klarides Village), Seymour, CT with a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 am at St. Augustine Church, 35 Washington Avenue, Seymour. Interment, with Military Honors Accorded, will be in the family plot at Mount St. Peter Cemetery, Derby.
