Daniel R. Brandon

Daniel R. Brandon, age 88, former First Selectman of Seymour, the beloved husband of 67 years to Susan Diller Brandon, entered into eternal rest peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, May 11, 2020 at Waterbury Hospital. He was born in Derby on August 23, 1931, loving son of the late Daniel M. and Gertrude Adams Brandon. Dan was a devout communicant of the Church of the Good Shepherd, St. Nicholas Parish of Seymour and was a member of its Men's Club. He was a graduate of Derby High School, Class of 1949 and the University of Bridgeport with a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Administration. Dan was employed as an Industrial Engineer with the Bridgeport Brass Company of Seymour and later worked for the Walter Archer Waste Management Company. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Dan was the First Selectman of the Town of Seymour from 1977-1981. Before serving as First Selectman, Dan was elected to the Board of Selectmen in 1973 and had served on several town committees. He also served in leadership and volunteer roles in a number of local civic and non-profit organizations including the Valley United Way, the Lower Naugatuck Valley Junior Achievement, the Lower Naugatuck Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Housatonic Council of Boy Scouts, Pop Warner Football League, the Seymour Band Parents Association, and St. Peter & St. Paul Home School Association. He was an active member of the Great Hill Hose Company for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, collecting coins and loved cars, especially his Camaro. He loved swimming in the ocean and especially being at the beach in Ogunquit, Maine. He enjoyed eating all types of seafood, but lobster was his favorite. Having an ice cream at Rich's Farm in Oxford was a close second. Most of all, Dan loved to spend time with his family and many friends. He will be sadly missed by all but will remain forever in our hearts. His loving family in addition to his wife Susan includes his two sons Mark Brandon of Seymour and Paul Brandon (Terry) of Oxford, his daughter Alisa Piech (Martin) of Meriden, his brother Jerome Brandon (Sophie) of Kansas City, MO, his sister Geri Petronchak of Southbury and five cherished grandchildren Michael Brandon, Dr. Danielle Francois (David Bruck), Jacqueline Brandon, Stacy Brandon and Peter Piech. He was pre-deceased by his sister, Bernadine Dube. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, a private inurnment will take place at the family plot at Mountain Meadows Cemetery in Seymour. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Dan's memory may be made to the Great Hill Hose Company or the American Cancer Society through the funeral home.
