David J. Marchitto, 61, of Seymour, the beloved husband of Mary Jean (Michel) Marchitto entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at the Hospital of St. Raphael. He was born in Derby, CT on September 29, 1951 the beloved son of the late Ellen Emslie Marchitto. David was Director of Special Education for the Shelton Board of Education and he was a psychologist in private practice for many years. David was a graduate of Western CT State University and of Southern CT State University. He had a strong love and devotion to his family and cherished his time with his grandchildren. David's life was a life devoted to family, faith, and service to others. He served on the board of the Parent Child Resource Center of Lower Naugatuck Valley in Derby for many years and served as Board President from 1998 to 2012. David worked tirelessly to facilitate quick access to mental health services for children. David was past board president of the Derby Methodist Church and served as an officer for the Boys and Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley. He was also a corporator for Griffin Hospital. David's loving family in addition to his beloved wife Mary Jean includes his caring and loving daughter Kristi Lynn Hofsess and her husband Glenn of Brookfield and his cherished grandchildren Parker, Landon and Anna Hofsess and his loving mother in law Fern M. Michel of Seymour. A Celebration of Life Service will be offered for David on Monday, September 9 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank St. (Rt. 67, opposite Klarides Village), Seymour. Interment in the family plot at Riverside Cemetery Shelton will take place following the service. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Sunday, September 8 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Memorial gifts may be made to the annual David J. Marchitto Scholarship Fund of the Lower Naugatuck Valley Boys and Girls Club of Shelton, benefitting the youth of the club, through the funeral director.
