Dennis John Callaghan

Dennis John Callaghan, age 75, of Ansonia, passed away unexpectedly on December 28, 2023. The son of Francis and Ellen Kiely Callaghan, Dennis leaves behind his wife of 36 years Susan Callaghan, his son Brent Callaghan (Nicole), his daughter Elyse Callaghan (Bryan), his two stepsons Walter and Mark Rich. He was the best Papa to his four grandchildren Pauletta, Blake, Ryan and Gavin. Dennis also leaves behind his brother Kevin Callaghan (April) and sister Suellyn Callaghan. "Big brothers always watching." Dennis loved going on many trips to sporting events and long conversations with his son Brent. He was proud to share the same middle name as his grandson Gavin. He cherished his alma mater Providence College and loved the Pittsburgh Steelers. Dennis greatly enjoyed spending lots of time with his family and many friends, his weekly visits to the SmokeEasy cigar parlor with pals, Jeopardy, and being with his wife. He was always there if you needed him, and he was one of the smartest men that we have ever known. Dennis was respected and loved by many people, and he excelled in his career with the State of CT Dept. of Corrections, retiring as a Captain in 2009. He was a Correctional Training Captain who served on the Correctional Emergency Response Team, was Chief Hostage Negotiator, was the Commander of the SITCON unit, a teacher, a coach and a referee. He later went on to work for Supervisor USA security, Theraplant security, and as an instructor. He may have retired, but never stopped working. We all loved him so much; we miss him more than words can express and we want his memory to live on forever. A Memorial Service in Celebration of Dennis will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank St. (Rt 67, across from Klarides Village) in Seymour. Visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00 am until the start of the service at 1:00 pm.
