Dominic Salvatore Bonfanti, age 95, of Seymour, entered into eternal rest peacefully on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at his home. He was born in Ansonia on November 16, 1920, son of the late Salvatore and Salvatrice Pace Bonfanti. A graduate of Ansonia High School, Class of 1938, he enlisted in the US Army in 1942, and served with distinction as a member of the 277 Combat Engineer Corps. He was discharged from the service on March 31, 1946 as a Tech Sergeant. Before leaving for duty, he had met his future bride May Sader. They married upon his return on April 22, 1946. Married for 69 years, they raised their three children in the home they built in Seymour in 1955 and where they lived the rest of their lives. He was president of the Garden City Civic Association for many years. A devout Catholic, Dominic was a communicant of St. Augustine Church in Seymour and served on the Parish Council as the head usher for most of his life. He was predeceased by his brothers Nicholas and Salvatore Bonfanti and his sisters, Rose Bonfanti, Sarah Forti and Josephine Bell. He leaves his beloved wife May, his children William and his wife Madeleine Winans, of Chester, Mary Card and Emma Dirzius and her husband Dennis of West Haven, as well as his three grandchildren, Adam Bonfanti of West Hollywood, CA, Marisa Bonfanti of Brooklyn, NY and Shannon Hennessy, mother of his two great grandchildren, Adrianna and Aiden Hennessy Kimmer. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. The family would like to thank Rhonda and Richard Rossick for all their help over the years. Richard was our father's right arm. Whenever the driveway needed shoveling or anything else needed to be done, Richard was there in seconds. He truly is an angel and we appreciate all he did....more then we can ever say. The family would also like to thank Deacon Frank Bevvino for being not only a good friend to the family, but for the warmth and comfort he showed to Dominic over the years.
