Dorothy A. Fiore

Dorothy (Haskell) Fiore, age 95, passed away peacefully at home in Oxford, CT on March 28, 2021. Born on April 24, 1925 in Milford Township, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Alice (Peeper) Haskell. Dorothy attended the Cook County School of Nursing in Chicago as a Cadet Nurse and became an RN in 1947. She met her future husband, Louis Fiore, at a USO dance when he was assigned to Chicago for the Navy during WWII. After the war, the couple returned to his hometown of Ansonia, CT. She was a nurse at Griffin Hospital in Derby from 1948 to 1963. Dorothy loved gardening and needle crafts; and had an avid interest in farming, news, and the weather. She was a conscientious recycler before it was popular, and was known for her diligence, dependability, and practicality. Dorothy volunteered in various church groups at the Catholic parishes she attended in Orange and Hamden, CT. She loved her daughters and granddaughters dearly, following their lives with great interest and deeply caring for their wellbeing and success. Dorothy is survived by her three daughters: Ellen (Fiore) Schneider and her husband Stephen, Mary (Fiore) Girard and her husband Dennis, and Anne Fiore; as well as her three granddaughters: Kari Fiore, Elizabeth Schneider, and Emily Schneider; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Louis, her brother Lawrence Haskell, and her two sisters Emma (Haskell) Beckman, and Erma (Haskell) Shumway. A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for Monday, April 5 at 10:00 AM (Directly) at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 733 Oxford Rd., Oxford, CT. Interment will follow in the family plot at Mount St. Peter Cemetery, Derby. In lieu of flowers, you can make a donation to Vitas Healthcare, 199 Park Road Ext. (Suite 102), Middlebury, CT 06762.
