On March 31, 2022, Betty passed away peacefully in her home at Pomperaug Woods in Southbury, CT. She was 92 years old. Betty was born in Myricks, MA, the loving daughter of Freeman and Ethel Sellars. She graduated from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in New Bedford, MA, before enlisting in the Air Force. She rose to become a 1st Lieutenant Flight Nurse. While there, she met her forever soulmate, husband, Raymond Jacobs. Betty and Ray raised their three children in Oxford, CT where they resided for over 60 years. They were married for 67 years. Betty was the consummate homemaker and an excellent cook at her beloved home on Great Hill Rd. She also held various nursing administration positions at the Marshall Lane Manor nursing home before retiring. For 13 years after her retirement she was the dispatch for the Oxford Community Car, shuttling fellow residents to their appointments. She was a very active member and contributor at the Oxford United Church of Christ. She taught Sunday school there for many years. Betty is pre-deceased by Ray and survived by her three children, David Jacobs (and Beth) of Plymouth, MA; Daniel Jacobs (and Michele DiBella) of Milford, CT; and Mary Jacobs of New Haven, CT. She is pre-deceased by her brother Robert Sellars and sister Catherine Comerford. Betty is survived by her younger sister, Barbara Chace and her sister-in-laws, Barbara Wilhelm and Kathy Slomski. She also is survived by 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and 2 great-great granddaughters. We thank the many loving caregivers who oversaw Betty's care over the years in Oxford and Pomperaug Woods and especially her private assistant, Mrs. Ellen Gilbert. She will be buried at the Oxford Congregational Cemetery on Friday, April 15 at 11:00am. A celebration of life will follow at the Oxford House Tavern. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oxford United Church of Christ.
