Elizabeth S. ("Betsy") Woodworth, nee Shattuck, 99 of Oxford, CT., born July 27, 1920, died on July 4 , 2020 at River Glen Health Care Center in Southbury, CT. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald A. Woodworth, Sr., her parents Frederick A. Shattuck, Sr. and Carrie May, nee Colgrove, and her brothers Danforth, Albert and Frederick, Jr., and a daughter Barbara C. Wargo (William). Surviving are sons Col. Donald A. Woodworth , Jr., USAF (Ret) (Donna) and John S. Woodworth (Andrea) daughters Norean E. Woodin (Al), Joan W. Milton, Rev. Betsy Tobak (Rev. Howard) and son-in-law William J. Wargo plus 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Betsy was born and grew up in Waterbury, Ct-graduating from Bunker Hill Grade School in 1934, Crosby High School in 1938, and Post Business College in 1940. She was an avid swimmer and diver on the Crosby High swim team . She married on Apr. 4, 1942, the first wedding performed at the then new sanctuary of the Bunker Hill Congregational Church. She moved with her husband and growing family to several Army posts during the early part of WWII before returning to live with her parents in Waterbury while her husband served overseas. She and her husband built a house in Oxford in 1947 and lived there until retiring to Florida in 1981. Her husband's death in 1996 ultimately brought her back to Connecticut. In addition to raising her six children , Betsy worked for many years for various companies in the Naugatuck Valley, most notably Naugatuck Rubber in Naugatuck and Waterman (Bic) Pen in Seymour. She was active in scouting , the Quaker Farms Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary , and The Oxford Congregational Church. Mom loved salt water and the beach! She was also loved by the many children who called her Aunt Betsy. Funeral. There is no visitation. A Funeral Service will be held at The Oxford Congregational Church(UCC) at a later date, with interment immediately following at the church cemetery. A reception for family and friends will follow at the church hall after a short graveside ceremony. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Oxford Congregational Church (UCC), 3 Academy Rd. Oxford, CT 06478. The family would like to express special thanks to Norean and Al Woodin for all they have done over the years to organize and manage Betsy's care and to the staff at River Glen Health Care Center for the compassionate care they provided during our mother's final years.
