Evelyn Griswold

Evelyn (Neumann) Griswold, 87, widow of Robert W. Griswold Sr., passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at Griffin Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Evelyn was born in Seymour on November 12, 1923, daughter of the late Mattus and Henrietta (Ulrich) Neumann. She was a lifelong resident of Seymour. Mrs. Griswold was a 1941 graduate of Seymour High School where she was valedictorian of her class. She trained as a nurse at Stamford Hospital School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse in 1945. She was employed as an RN at Griffin Hospital and Shady Knoll Convalescent Home and was a volunteer nurse during the 1955 flood. Evelyn was an avid reader, who also enjoyed talking on the telephone, baking chocolate chip cookies, and visiting with her family and friends. Mrs. Griswold is survived by her son Robert W. Griswold Jr. and his wife Nancy of Beacon Falls and a grandson Robert Scott Griswold and his wife Lynn of Ansonia. She also leaves nephews Harold and Dennis Neumann and a niece Gale Neumann. She was predeceased by two brothers Arthur and Harold Neumann and a sister Harriet N. Sherwinsky. There are no calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
