George John Miller

George John Miller, age 87, of Oxford the beloved husband of Dolores Joan Dowd Miller, entered into eternal rest peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, December 22, 2017 at St. Mary Hospital in Waterbury. He was born in Peekskill, NY on May 1, 1930, the loving son of John and Maude (Binder) Miller. George was a devout communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church of Oxford. George was a graduate of St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY where he played football and served as the President of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He was the retired plant manager for Pepperidge Farm of Norwalk, CT and Willard, OH and he previously worked for Standard Brands of Peekskill, NY. George served with pride and honor in the U. S. Army from 1954-1956 and was a reservist from 1956-1962. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and skiing. His mother and father were the owners of Miller's Restaurant of Peekskill, NY. George will be sadly missed by all but will remain forever in our hearts. His loving family in addition to his wife Dolores includes his caring sons Timothy G. Miller (Nancy) of Sandy Hook, CT, Mark G. Miller (Mary) of Rye, NY and Jeffrey G. Miller (Susan) of Chicago, IL, ten cherished grandchildren Alexander, Douglas, Deidre, Andrew, Tyler, Katie, Jaime, Lindsey, Robert and Samantha and several nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his brothers Thomas and Constantine Miller. A Mass of Christian Burial in Celebration of George's Life will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 733 Oxford Road, Oxford. Full Military Honors will be accorded following the Mass. Interment will be in the family plot at Hillside Cemetery, Peekskill on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 11:00 am. Friends and relatives may call at the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank St. (RT 67, across from Klarides Village) Seymour on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Memorial Gifts in George's memory may be made to The Kidney Foundation, through the funeral home.
