Harry M. Schwenger, age 68, of Oxford, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 5, 2012, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Schwenger was born on July 3, 1943, in Bridgeport. He was the son of the late Harry and Alvilda Schwenger, a member of the Explorer Drum and Bugle Corps and of the Oxford Boy Scouts of America Troop 1, a graduate of Wilby High School, Class of 1961, and attended the University of Connecticut. After college, Harry served in the U.S. Army National Guard, owned his own hunting and fishing store, and went on to own and run numerous print shop businesses. He was an avid outdoorsman who was devoted to large game hunting and salt/freshwater fishing. Harry is survived by his caring wife of 42 years, Ingrid (Cawthra) of Oxford; son, Christian Schwenger and his wife, Michelle; his beloved granddaughter and grandson, Olivia and Jack, all of Beacon Falls; as well as his sister Janet Schwenger, of Oxford, and his sister Madelyn Schwenger of Highland, NY; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and great friends. A Funeral Service in Celebration of Harry's life will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 10:00 am (DIRECTLY) at the Oxford United Church of Christ-Congregational, 3 Academy Road, Oxford, CT 06478 with the Rev. Dr. Bonnie Bardot, Interim Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot in the Oxford United Church of Christ-Congregational Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank Street (RT. 67, across from Klarides Village) Seymour on Monday, April 9, 2012 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. The family is requesting that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to either the Oxford Boy Scouts of America Troop 1, C/O Paul Filipowich & Co., 255 Bank Street, Seymour, CT 06483 or the Oxford United Church of Christ Congregational, 3 Academy Road, Oxford, CT 06478.
