Hazel C. De Angelis, age 85, of Seymour, the beloved wife of the late Robert J. De Angelis, entered into eternal rest peacefully on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Derby on April 11, 1933, daughter of the late Arthur and Johanna Conroy Comboni. Hazel was a devout communicant of the Church of the Good Shepherd of Seymour and was a charter member and Past President of Our Lady Society of the church. She was the co-founder, along with her husband Robert, of Soil Testing, Inc. serving as the company's Vice President for many years Hazel was a graduate of Shelton High School and Ansonia Secretarial School. She was a member of the Board of Directors of the Lower Naugatuck Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross and was a recipient of the Pat Nixon Award which is given in recognition for her public and community service. Hazel was involved in establishing the Seymour High School Color Guard and was a veteran member of the Great Hill Hose Company Ladies Auxiliary. She traveled extensively with her late husband Robert. Hazel loved to cook, had an eye for art and a flair for decorating. She enjoyed painting, needlepoint, decoupage and was a champion Scrabble player. Most of all, Hazel loved to spend time with her family and many friends and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Her loving family includes her four devoted sons Robert D. De Angelis of Florida, James A. De Angelis (Anne) of Seymour, David T. De Angelis of Seymour and Philip C. De Angelis (Sheri) of Oxford and, her three caring daughters Maria D. Toczko (Gary) of Wallingford, Susan D. Krawec (Jeffrey) of Rowlett, TX and Alecia K. De Angelis of Middlebury, her loving brother Edward Comboni (Nancy) of Shelton, her two loving sisters MaryAnn Landino of Shelton and Esther Abate (James) of Orange, her thirteen cherished grandchildren, her three cherished great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Hazel was predeceased by her beloved sisters Maureen Hylwa, Johanna Hanley and Janice Comboni. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July18, 2018 at 11:00 am DIRECTLY at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Mountain Road, Seymour. Interment will follow in the family plot at St. Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby. Friends and family may call at the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank St. (RT 67, across from Klarides Village) Seymour on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Hazel's memory may be made to Comboni Missionaries or the Church of the Good Shepherd Improvement fund, both through the funeral home.
