Helen Gundersen

Helen B. Hafersat Gundersen, age 93, a lifelong Seymour resident, the beloved wife of 45 years to the late Arnold Edmund Gundersen, entered into rest on Friday, April 26, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Seymour on December 17, 1919 , daughter of the late August and Natale Semmler Hafersat. She was an active member of The Immanuel Lutheran Church of Oxford. Helen was a graduate of Seymour High School. She had been employed as a bookkeeper for the former Waterman Pen Company and had worked as a secretary to the Principal of Chatfield School of Seymour. She enjoyed cooking , baking and making wedding cakes. Helen also enjoyed crafts, oil painting and playing bingo. She especially liked being with her family and friends and will be sadly missed by all. Her loving family includes her two caring sons, Fred Gundersen of South Pomfret,Vt., and David Gundersen and his partner Jeffrey Matthews of Seymour and her cherished friends Bob and Norma Bohannon of Seymour. She was predeceased by her dear sister Lydia Hafersat and her beloved brothers Otto and Raymond Hafersat. A Funeral Service in Celebration of Helen's Life will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 11:00 am DIRECTLY at The Immanuel Lutheran Church, 25 Great Hill Rd ,Oxford with The Reverend Bruce Steinway, Pastor, officiating. There will be no calling hours. Interment in the family plot at Trinity Cemetery, Seymour will follow. Helen's family wishes to thank Dr. Gerald Fette of Naugatuck and The Nursing Staffs of Shady Knoll Healthcare of Seymour and Gardner Heights of Shelton for their loving and compassionate care of Helen. The Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank Street (RT 67, across from Klarides Village) Seymour, is caring for the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Helen's memory to The Immanuel Lutheran Church, 25 Great Hill Rd., Oxford,CT 06478 or to a charity of one's choice.
