Hilda Miller

Hilda Collins Miller, age 94, of Shelton, the beloved wife of the late Carl J. Miller, Jr. entered into eternal rest on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at St. Vincent Medical Center, Bridgeport, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Bridgeport on October 24, 1917, daughter of the late John J. and Clara Halvorsen Collins. Hilda was a devout communicant of St. Lawrence Church of Huntington. She had retired from the Bridgeport Post Advertising Department and was the co-founder of the Miller-Ward Funeral Home of Seymour. Hilda was an active volunteer for many charitable organizations and was a member of the former Huntington Grange and Huntington Homemakers. She enjoyed hooking and braiding rugs, canning vegetables and making apple pies from her own apple trees. Hilda will be missed her family and friends. Her loving family includes her devoted daughter Janice Miller Schiappa and her husband Gary of Shelton, her loving sons Carl J. Miller, III and his wife Patricia of Seymour, Dennis Miller and his wife Alyce of South Carolina, Brian Miller and his wife Valery of Northford, Kevin Miller and Dom Fazzari of Shelton and former daughter-in-law Donna Miller of Seymour, her beloved sisters Claire Leslie of Branford and Marlene Sweitzer of Monroe, ten cherished grandchildren John and Kurt Miller, Denyse and Dean Miller, Rachel Sarenas, Brian Miller, Jr., and Samantha Miller, Joseph Schiappa, Natalie McGowan and Lauren Schiappa-Blaquiere, her eight cherished great-grandchildren and several loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved brothers Wallace and John J. Collins and her beloved sisters Catherine Nelson, Agnes Wupperfeld and Nathalie Fredette. A Mass of Christian Burial in Celebration of Hilda's life will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at 10:00 am DIRECTLY at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Mountain Road, Seymour. Interment in the family plot will follow at Lawn Cemetery, Huntington. Friend and relatives may call at the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank St (RT 67, across from Klarides Village) Seymour on Wednesday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
