James Robert Simons, age 71, of Southington, formerly of Seymour, the beloved husband of 17 years to Teresita (Terry) Eclavea Simons, entered into eternal rest peacefully on Friday, December 9, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on July 4, 1945, beloved son of the late William and Claire Merlino Simons. Jim had formerly been employed by Sanborn Trucking Company of Milford and had retired as a driver from Consolidated Freight Company of Waterbury. While residing in Seymour, Jim was a communicant of the Church of the Good Shepherd. He proudly served his country as an Electrician Mate Third Class with the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Jim loved traveling on trains, was an avid reader and loved being with his family and many friends. He especially loved the time he spent with his grandchildren. Jim will be sadly missed by all and will remain forever in our hearts. His loving family in addition to his wife Teresita includes his devoted stepson Jesse Castro of Southington, his caring sister Claire Rillstone (Donald) of Seymour, cherished grandchildren Teresita Castro of Cromwell and Jesse Castro, II of Meriden, a loving niece Samantha Allard of Beacon Falls and his best friend Butch Chatfield of Oxford. Jim was predeceased by his brother John Simons. A Mass of Christian Burial in Celebration of Jim's life will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Mountain Road, Seymour. Interment in the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown with Full Military Honors being accorded will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Friends and relatives may call at the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank Street (RT. 67, across from Klarides Village) Seymour from 8:30 am until 10:30 am. Memorial Gifts in honor of Jim may be made to The Archbishop's Annual Appeal through the funeral home.
