John Henry Allen, Jr., age 82, of Southbury, formerly of Ansonia, died peacefully, August 5, 2010 at Griffin Hospital, Derby surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Mary Ward Allen. Mr. Allen was born September 16, 1927 to the late John H. Allen, Sr and Mary Lane Allen. He was a communicant of the Church of the Assumption of Ansonia. John grew up in West Haven and graduated from West Haven High School's Class of 1944. John was a self made man. He was a Master Plumber who founded Allen's Plumbing Supply of Seymour in 1970 and continued assisting his wonderful customers there along with hosting a weekly radio talk show "At Home with Allen's" until his recent illness. John was a co-founder and former member of the Hilltop Hose Company of Ansonia. He prided himself in the fact that he was a 12th generation American with his ancestors settling in Connecticut in 1639. John was an avid reader and history buff, who enjoyed playing the harmonica and cutting up the rug. He was also a natural athlete. In his youth he played hockey with the New Haven Blades. John led a full and wonderful life. He was an ordinary man but extraordinary to all who knew him. He will be truly missed by all. Besides his beloved wife Mary of 58 years, he leaves his devoted children Mary (Joe Brozak), Kathleen (Dave Pantalone), Patricia (Ron Tuckett), John, III (Kimberly Allen), Martha (Charles Colburn), Loretta (Dave Bradt) and Sarah (Glenn Roman) and two sisters Mary Hogan and Barbara Gagnon, twelve cherished grandchildren, two cherished great grandchildren. John was predeceased by his brother Russell Allen. All services will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
