John J. Fiore

John J. Fiore, age 89, of Oxford, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 11, 2015. He was born in Ansonia, CT on August 29, 1925, the son of the late Gandolfo and Michelina Fiore. John was a graduate of Ansonia High School and the University of Connecticut. He was the comptroller for the former B.F. Goodrich Company's Sponge Rubber division and was also part owner of Housatonic Ever-Float, Inc. John was dedicated to both his country and community. He proudly served with the US Army Air Corps as an Aviation Cadet with the 2109th Air Force Base Unit during WWII. John was an active member of St. Thomas the Apostle church for over 45 years, many of which he served as an usher. He became a member of the Oxford's Democratic Town Committee and was on the Oxford Board of Finance for over 20 years, serving as its chairman for part of that time. John also found time to volunteer as a Boy Scout Troup Leader and was highly involved with the Visiting Nurses Association (Valley Chapter). He was an avid skier, ham radio operator, and loving uncle. He will be sadly missed by all and will remain forever in our hearts. John's loving family includes his brother Louis Fiore, his sister Rose Martino; his nieces Ellen Schneider, Anne Fiore and Mary Girard; his nephews Nicholas Martino, John Martino, Robert Fiore and David Fiore; and many grandnephews and grandnieces. He was predeceased by his brother Michael Fiore. Friends and relatives may call at the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank Street (Rt. 67, opposite Klarides Village), Seymour, CT on Sunday, May 17 from 3 - 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, May 18 at 12:00 noon at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 733 Oxford Road (Rt. 67) , Oxford, CT. Interment with full military honors will follow at Mt. St. Peter Cemetery, Derby.
