Joseph Peter Horbal, age 91, of Beacon Falls, formerly of Milford, beloved husband of the late Shirley Ghent Horbal, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at his home with his loving family by his side. Joseph was born June 11, 1921, in Ansonia, the son of the late Hnat and Mary Kozak Horbal. Joseph was a devout communicant of St. Michael Church, Beacon Falls. He worked for Raybestos Manhattan of Stratford, until his retirement. Joseph lived his adult life in Milford and also lived in Santa Rosa, California for fifteen years. He served with pride and honor in the U.S. Army during WWII in the 96th Bombardier Division attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of the Connecticut Yankees Drum Corps as well as the Drum Corps of Stratford. Joseph was a member of the VFW Post #7788 and served as their past commander, he also was a member of the Emil Senger Post #10 American Legion, Seymour. He was an avid fisherman , an avid UCONN Huskies Girls Basketball fan and the Seymour Wildcats Softball fan. He was also a member of the Connecticut Hurricanes of Shelton. Joseph enjoyed being with his family and friends and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. His loving family includes his devoted daughter Sharon Haversat of Beacon Falls with whom he resided, three loving grandchildren Erik and David Haversat both of Beacon Falls, and Heather Haversat of Naugatuck, a cherished great-granddaughter Juliana Gavrish of Naugatuck and several loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters Anna Apinovich and Esther Zuraw and five brothers Dimitri Horbal, Mike Horbal, Frank Horbal, Milton Horbal and John Horbal. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at 10:00 am DIRECTLY at St. Michael Church, 25 Maple St., Beacon Falls. Military Honors will be accorded following the Mass. Inurnment will be held privately at the convenience of the family at St. Mary Cemetery, Portland,CT. Memorial Gifts may be made in Joseph's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis,TN 38105.
