Joyce Slaughter

Joyce Mary Slaughter, age 75, of Fayetteville, NC was called home by the Lord on Tuesday morning, August 27, 2013. She was born in New Orleans, LA on January 10, 1938 to her late mother Vera Woods Delvaille and her late father Charles Delvaille, Sr. Joyce was the oldest of five children. She met and married her now late husband Claude M. Slaughter shortly after which Claude joined the military. Together, they lived a military life abroad in Germany and Italy. After retirement, the couple settled down in Fayetteville where Joyce was a devoted housewife and volunteer at the Fort Bragg Military Thrift Shop where she was awarded for her many years of volunteer services. Joyce loved family life and traveling. She had a very vibrant, dramatic and joyful personality. She turned many heads for she had a love for fashion. Joyce also took on the care of her young siblings after her mother became ill. She was especially fond of her niece and nephew Keith and Joyce (name sake). Joyce leaves to cherish her memories two sisters Geraldine Soublet of Seymour and Vera Delvaille Williams of New Orleans, brother Charles Delvaille of Seymour and many nieces, nephews, friends and caregivers. She was predeceased by her brother George A. Delvaille. Calling hours will be Thursday, September 5, 2013 at the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank Street (RT 67, across from Klarides Village), Seymour from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. A Funeral Service in Celebration of Joyce's life will be held on Friday, September 6, 2013 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mountain Meadows Cemetery, Seymour.
