Keith J. Mitchell Sr., age 85, of Seymour, died Sunday June 17, 2012 at Bridgeport Hospital. He was born in Beacon Falls on March 10, 1927, the beloved son of the late Keith L. and Lydia Garrison Mitchell. Prior to his retirement Keith had worked as a mechanic for the Seymour Public Works Department. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War Era. He was a member of the Seymour United Methodist Church where he was an usher and also served on the Board of Trustees. The Keith Mitchell Forest in Seymour was named after him for his work as Tree Warden and the beautification of Seymour. Keith was also the Past President of the Naugatuck Valley Audubon Society. He was the Council Commissioner for the Housatonic Council of Boy Scouts of America and also served as a Docent at the New York Botanical Gardens. Keith's loving family includes his three sons, Keith Mitchell Jr. of Naugatuck, Stewart Mitchell of Cheshire, and Craig Mitchell of Oxford and two granddaughters, one grandson and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his twin brother Kenneth Mitchell. A Funeral Service in Celebration of Keith's life will be held on Thursday June 21, 2012 at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of The Miller-Ward Funeral Home 260 Bank St. (Rt. 67), Seymour (across from Klarides Village) with the Reverend Robert Booth, Pastor of Seymour United Methodist Church officiating. Interment with full military honors will be accorded at Pines Bridge Cemetery, Beacon Falls. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
