Manfred C. Scherer, age 86, of Bethany, the beloved husband of 60 years to the late Pauline Marie Whalen Scherer, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at the Willows Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Germany on September 4, 1924, the beloved son of the late Karl and Marie Wagner. He had moved to the US at the age of eight and has resided in Bethany since 1947. Fred was an avid horseman who enjoyed riding and training his many horses. He competed in rodeos and was a champion team roper. Fred served his country as a member of the Calvary during WWII and was also active in local politics, serving on the Bethany Zoning Board of Appeals for 19 years. He will be missed by his family and many friends. Fred's loving family includes his three beloved daughters, Patricia Warnock and her husband Robert of Ramona, OK, Kathleen McKay of Bethany, and Lillian Girard of Guilford; his three cherished grandchildren, Karen, Christina and Craig; and his five cherished great grandchildren, Samantha, Jack, Alexander, Jackson, Ty, Audrhea and Cheyenne. A Memorial Mass in Celebration of Fred's life will be held on Monday, August 16 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Assumption (The Mother Church), Litchfield Turnpike, Woodbridge.
