Maragrayce Dolyak

Maragrayce E. (Maggie) Smith Dolyak, 85 of Seymour passed away on August 25th with her loving family by her side, joining her loving husband Jack in eternal peace.

Maggie was born on June 26th, 1939 to William and Mary Grace Smith in Bridgeport and grew up in Stratford. She married John (Jack) Dolyak in 1960 and moved to Shelton. Together they had two children Debbie Sherman (Jay) and Michael Dolyak. Maggie later moved to Seymour to be closer to her children, stating she needed to be no more than 10 minutes from them.

Maggie was a senior claim adjuster at Aetna and later Travelers until her retirement. Upon her retirement Maggie and Jack spent time gardening and enjoying their family. Maggie would frequently be seen at Saturday mass at Good Shepherd (St Nicholas) Church.

As a devoted UConn basketball fan Maggie spent many hours devoted to cheering on “her teams”. We all knew not to call during a game and make sure that she had popcorn to insure that win.

Maggie loved checking in on her loved ones, calling her grandchildren Meghan Ely (Will), Hunter Dolyak Matthew Sherman and Amy Sherman to see what was going on with their lives and sharing her honest opinion about it. Maggie was great Grandmother to Charlotte, Elizabeth and Kinsley Ely. Sister to Betty Jane Fusco and Ann Norcia, each of the sisters shared their love of family and enjoyed checking on each other and keeping updated about their families. Maggie was also an Aunt to many loved nieces and nephews who she shared many memories with from picnics to trips to Rhode Island, to many more to mention. Maggie has many cousins who she thought of often.

The Dolyak/Sherman families would like to thank the compassionate employees of Griffin Hospital who made our mom comfortable and peaceful. We cannot thank you all enough for all you did for us.

A Mass of Christian Burial in Celebration of Maggie’s life will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024 at 11:00 am DIRECTLY at The Church of the Good Shepherd of St. Nicholas Parish 135 Mountain Road in Seymour. Interment will follow at Mountain Meadows Cemetery, Seymour, CT.
