Marie A. Sarkes

Marie A. Sarkes, age 81, of Seymour, entered into eternal rest peacefully on Friday, September 29, 2017 at Hewitt Heath Center in Shelton. She was born in Seymour on January 17, 1936, beloved daughter of the late Joseph and Victoria Barbour Sarkes. Marie was a 1954 graduate of Seymour High School and a devout communicant of St. Augustine Church in Seymour. She was the Assistant to the President of the Culinary Institute in Hyde Park, New York for many years. Marie had a love for gourmet cooking and music, playing the piano and many other instruments. She was a movie trivia aficionado and had a great knowledge of many things, especially literature and history. Marie loved the time she spent with her family and many friends. She will be sadly missed by all but will remain forever in our hearts. Her loving family includes her four sisters Madeline Sarkes, Dorothy Sarkes and Theresa Sorce, all of Seymour and Patricia Joseph of Groton, her sister-in-law Jacqueline Sarkes of Seymour, her eleven nieces and nephews including Michelle Koether and her husband Robert and daughter Victoria of Seymour and several grand nieces and grand nephews. Marie was predeceased by her brothers Thomas Sarkes and Alfred Sarkes and her sister Joan P. Webber. A Funeral Service in Celebration of Marie's Life will be held on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at 9:15 am in the chapel of the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank St. (Rt. 67, across from Klarides Village) Seymour with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 am at St. Augustine Church, 35 Washington Ave., Seymour. Interment will be in the family plot at St. Augustine Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 8:30 am until the start of the services at 9:15 am. Memorial gifts in memory of Marie may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital through the funeral home.
