Marlene Joan Montgomery Flood, age 80, of Woodbridge, CT (formerly of Seymour, CT), passed away peacefully on December 6, 2016 after a long journey fighting Alzheimer's disease. Marlene was born on June 25, 1936 in Danbury, CT and was married to her loving husband, Donald Flood, for 60 years. Marlene had a successful and fulfilling career working for the Seymour Board of Education for 25 years. Upon retirement, she devoted her time to taking care of two of her granddaughters, Jessica and Rachael Mason, as their "nanny", which brought her great joy. She was an accomplished seamstress and extremely talented and gifted in all kinds of arts and crafts. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and spending time with family and friends. She was an avid reader, enjoyed swimming and skiing, and loved to bake, especially during the holidays. Marlene had a wonderful sense of humor, and remained a brave and strong-willed woman even through her final days. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Marlene is survived by her husband, Donald Flood of Woodbridge, CT (formerly of Seymour, CT); daughters Sherri Flood and her husband Paul DeFalco of Litchfield, CT and Sharon Mason and her husband Charlie Mason of Woodbridge, CT; granddaughters Ashely Papa of Naugatuck, CT, Jessica Mason of Englewood, CO, and Rachael Mason of Woodbridge, CT; and sisters Jean Cross of Missouri and Pat Wechter of Florida. In keeping with the wishes of Marlene, no services will be held. Donations may be made to VITAS Healthcare of Waterbury, CT online at http://www.vitas.com/community-connection/donate. The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of Brookdale Senior Living of Woodbridge, CT for their excellent work and loving care the past few years and VITAS Healthcare (hospice) for all their support and compassion in her final days. In the spirit of Marlene's love of everything Irish, "… and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand."
