Mitchell Carroll Miles, born February 19, 1958 passed away September 11, 2024 in New York-Presbyterian Medical Center after 6 months hoping for a new heart. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard H. and Joanne B. Miles of Seymour, Ct. and is survived by siblings Michael Benner (Donna) Madison, Me., Pattiann Bennett (Bruce) Eureka, Mt., Jay Benner (Denise) South Carolina, Paula Zawadski (Chris) Milford, Ct. and Richard Miles (Paula Ann) of York, Me. Mitch was a mystery to most of us. He could be abrupt and harsh but showed his compassionate and trustworthy nature by tending to our Mother when she became a widow and by impeccably following Mom’s wishes after she died. Our fondest moments with him were at the horseshoe pits in our backyards. We all had them. A cooler of beer, a barbecue and friends meant we were grounded for hours, pitching and walking back and forth for miles. Mitch was a good player and loved the game. It made sense to all of us when he and a friend competed for the Horseshoe Pitching Record for The Guinness World Book of Records, which they won in May 2015 and held until 2020. Mitch played without stopping, with required breaks, for 24 hours straight in spite of bad knees to raise money for American Legion Post 146 in Bethlehem, Ct. where he was President of the Horseshoe League and proud of his record. Mitch was a professional driver, chauffeuring people to and from LaGuardia and JFK airports in New York City as well as escort for wide load transports throughout New England. He loved music and was part of the Travis McComb Band which he continued to follow. After Mom died, Mitch became a home care provider with Visiting Angels where he was loved and known as awesome and a class act. Our brother is now at peace with Mom and Dad in heaven. A Committal will follow in Montana in the Spring. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
