Jacobs, Raymond "Ray" Jacobs On August 10, 2020, Raymond Jacobs, passed away peacefully in his home at Pomperaug Woods in Southbury, CT at the age of 89. Ray was born in Ottawa Lakes, MI., the faithful son of George and Catherine Jacobs. He grew up in Petersburg, MI and graduated from Summerfield High School before enlisting in the Air Force where he rose to Staff Sargent at Dow Air Force Base in Bangor, ME. It was there he met his forever love, wife, Elizabeth, "Betty" (Sellars). They were married for 67 years. Ray and Betty raised their three children in Oxford, CT where they resided for over 60 years. Like his mother, Ray was an avid gardener growing vegetables that he gave to family and friends. He worked for IBM as a Customer Engineer for over 35 years from which he retired in 1987. A ferocious reader he was incredibly knowledgeable about current events. He was a very active member and contributor at the Oxford United Church of Christ where he volunteered on many church committees. His favorite charity was the Spooner House in Shelton, CT In addition to his loving wife Betty, Ray is survived by his three children, David Jacobs (Beth) of Plymouth, MA; Daniel Jacobs (Michele DiBella) of Milford, CT; and Mary Jacobs of New Haven, CT., his sisters, Barbara Wilhelm and Kathy Slomski and sister in-law Barbara Chace. He also is survived by 5 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great granddaughters. The family deeply thanks the many loving caregivers who oversaw Ray's care over the past 2 years at Pomperaug Woods and say a special thank you to Betty and Ray's private health aid, Mrs. Ellen Gilbert. A Graveside Service in Celebration of Ray's Life will be held on Friday, August 14, 2020 at 10:00 am at Oxford Congregational Cemetery, with the Rev. Karen Jodice, Pastor of the Oxford United Church of Christ, officiating. In lieu of flowers, please donate blood to the Red Cross, or give a gift of money or canned goods to the Spooner House in Shelton, CT. www.actspooner.org. That would make Ray's day.
