Raymond J. Sypniewski, age 85, of Seymour, the beloved husband of 53 years to Catherine Daunis Sypniewski, passed away as he lived; with peaceful grace and dignity on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Griffin Hospital, Derby. He was born in Seymour on February 7, 1929, the beloved son of the late John and Victoria Jelinski Sypniewski. Ray was a devout communicant of the Church of the Good Shepherd of Seymour since its founding, serving as an Usher and was a member of the Church's Men's Club. He was also a member of the Knight of Columbus, Aurora Council #53 of Seymour. He retired in 1991 after 33 years with the Northeast Utilities Company. Ray was a member of the Seymour High School Class of 1947 and was a member of the school's first football team. Ray was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a hard working, kind-hearted, generous, caring and friendly man. Ray loved a challenge and was able to fix almost anything. He enjoyed planting his garden each year and harvesting the crops. Ray was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and the UCONN Men and Women's Basketball teams. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Ray's loving family in addition to his devoted wife Catherine includes his cherished daughter Jean Banning and her husband David of Milford, his loving sister Helen Drabicki of Beacon Falls, his loving grandson Nicholas Banning, his caring sister-in-law Betty Sypniewski of Murrells Inlet, SC, his son-in-law John Lampart, III and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter Ellen Marie Sypniewski Lampart and his brothers Walter, Martin and John Sypniewski and his sisters Estelle Lique and Jane Sypniewski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 10:00 am DIRECTLY at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Mountain Road, Seymour. Interment in the family plot at Mount St. Peter Cemetery, Derby will follow. Friends and relatives may call at the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank Street (RT 67, across from Klarides Village) Seymour on Friday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
