Richard Miles

Richard Harpin Miles, age 94, of Southbury, formerly of Oxford, the beloved husband for 63 years of the late Janice Claire Tucker Miles, entered peacefully into rest on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at the Lutheran Home of Southbury, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Seymour on April 25, 1916, son of the late J. Edward and Susannah Williams Miles. Richard was co-owner of Miles Brothers Construction of Oxford and was a life long Oxford resident. He enjoyed tinkering with anything mechanical, especially antique tractors and cars. Richard had a great sense of humor and a wonderful personality. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. His loving family includes his brother Robert N. Miles, Sr. of Oxford, his children Carolyn Starchak and her husband Bill of Southbury, Sharon Lenahan and her husband John of Southbury and Rick Miles and his wife Norma of Oxford, his cherished grandchildren Kevin Starchak of Woodbury, Robin Starchak of Southbury, Kim Schmitz and her husband Marty of South Carolina, Kurt Lenahan and his wife Laurie of Roxbury and Kelly Lenahan of Southbury, his cherished great-grandchildren Kelsey Ruehl of Asheville, NC, Hattie Ruehl of Old Saybrook, Justin Branfuhr and his wife Laura of Myrtle Beach, SC and Owen Lenahan of Roxbury, his cherished great-great-granddaughter Brynn Ruehl Larssen, his sister-in-law Rose Miles of Oxford, his brother-in-law Joseph Samoker of Southbury and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Eleanor W. Miles, Harrison E. Miles, J. Howard Miles, Harriet E. Miles, Donald R. Miles, US Army Sergeant David S. Miles, Rees E. Miles, Marion M. Samoker, Edward U. Miles, Franklin R. Miles, Frances M. Samoker and H. Wilson Miles. Richard's family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Lutheran Home of Southbury for the special care, friendship and love that they provided for their father. A Memorial Service in Celebration of Richard will be held on Friday, November 26, 2010 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of the Miller-Ward Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 260 Bank Street (RT. 67, across from Klarides Village) Seymour with the Rev. Leo McIlrath, Chaplain of the Lutheran Home of Southbury, officiating. Interment in the family plot at Southford Cemetery, Southbury will follow. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home starting at 10:00 am until the start of the Memorial Service at 11:00 am.
