Richard Nash Brown, age 89, of Oxford, the beloved husband of 69 years of Jean Rice Brown, entered into rest peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Shady Knoll Health Center in Seymour. He was born in Everett, MA on May 19, 1929, loving son of the late Harold and Marjorie Nash Brown. Richard graduated from Tuffs University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and went on to have a long career as an Engineer, working for General Electric, Hamilton Beach and Black and Decker. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the World War II occupation of Japan. Richard was an active member of the Oxford United Church of Christ-Congregational serving on the Building Committee, the Board of Trustees and as a member of the Deaconate. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family and many friends. Richard will be sadly missed by all, but will remain forever in our hearts. His loving family in addition to his wife Jean includes his two sons Ronald Brown and his wife Sue Ann of St. Marys, Georgia and Timothy Brown and his wife Melanie of Cape Charles, Virginia, his two daughters Leslie Mattos and her husband Ken of Zionsville, Pennsylvania and Patricia Driscoll and her fianc David Fuini of Oxford, eight cherished grandchildren, eleven cherished great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Richard was predeceased by his brother Donald Brown and his sisters Elizabeth Smith and Barbara Baker. A Memorial Service with Military Honors accorded in Celebration of Richard's Life will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Oxford United Church of Christ-Congregational, 3 Academy Road, Oxford with the Rev. Karen Jodice, officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. All other services are private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Richard's memory may be made to the Oxford United Church of Christ-Congregational or the Wounded Warriors Foundation, both through the funeral home.
