Richard S. Koval, age 81, entered into eternal rest peacefully on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at VITAS Hospice Care at St. Mary's Hospital. He was born on October 25, 1942 and resided in Waterbury with his cousin Bob Bernaitis, whom he cared for. Dick was raised in Seymour and was the owner of the Country Farms Convenience Store for over 25 years. He was a former member and past president of the Seymour/Oxford Rotary Club who enjoyed cooking, especially making homemade pizzas. Dick enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends and loved to attend all of his grandkid’s sporting, musical and performing events. He was a dedicated and hardworking man who never wanted to quit. Dick will be sadly missed by all, but will remain forever in our hearts.


His loving family includes his four children, Richard M. Koval and his wife Christine, Michael Koval, Robert Koval and Debra Koval, his sister Nancy Kuzia and her husband Tom, his nephew Tommy, his two nieces Judi and Nancy, his cherished grandchildren Zachary, Alyssa, Michael and Madison, his ex-wife and mother of his children Adele Koval, his life-long best friend Nick Pappas, whom he loved as a brother and several cousins.


The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Kert Sabbath, APRN Karen Hammond and their staff at the Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center where he received compassionate care for over 16 years. Also, Dr. Sandeep Tiyyagura and staff at CT Kidney and Hypertension Specialists.


A Memorial Service in Celebration of Dick’s life will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 11:00 am in the chapel of the Miller-Macari Family Funeral Home, 260 Bank St. (RT 67, across from Klarides Village) in Seymour. Interment in the family plot at Mountain Meadows Cemetery in Seymour will follow. Friends and relatives may call on the family on Saturday morning from 9:00 am until the start of the service at 11:00 am.
