Robert Shortell,

Robert W. Shortell, Sr., 80, of Seymour, beloved husband for 55 years to Anita Scanzillo Shortell, entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 1, 2011 at Prince William Hospital, Manassas, VA. He was born in Derby on March 31, 1931, son of the late Matthew and Dorothy Miner Shortell He was a communicant of Assumption Church of Ansonia. Bob was a reporter for the Journal Courier, New Haven Register and the Valley Gazette for many years. He was formerly employed in the Inside Sales Dept. of the BF Goodrich Company of Shelton and a former member of the Webster Hose Company of Ansonia. He was an avid collector of stamps, coins, Pez Dispensers and trains. In addition to his wife, Anita, his loving family includes his devoted sons, Robert W. Shortell, Jr. and his wife, Betsy, of Boston, MA; his caring daughters, Sherri Shortell of Manassas Park, VA and Alison Fisch and her husband, Stephen, of Charlotte, NC; a beloved sister, Rosemary O'Brien of Ansonia; and two cherished grandchildren, Michael Hibbs and Robert Fisch, He was predeceased by his brothers, Matthew, Donald and John and sisters Ruth Mullen and Dorothy Bright. A Memorial Mass in celebration of Robert's life will be held on THURSDAY, JULY 7 at 11:00 am at the Assumption Church (DIRECTLY), 61 North Cliff Street, Ansonia. Interment will be in the family plot at Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport. Friends and relatives may call at the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank Street (RT. 67, across from Klarides Village) Seymour on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
