Sonya R. Frink, age 86 entered into eternal rest on May 25th, 2020 in the comfort of her home in Seymour, CT. Sonya was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on April 30, 1934, daughter and eldest of six children of the late Walter Hamuka and Anna (Piscorik) Hamuka. Sonya dedicated over 40 years of her life to the care of those around her as a Registered Nurse. She worked in such prestigious hospitals as Flower Fifth Ave in New York as a young nurse, then later onto local CT area hospitals such as Griffin Hospital and Yale New Haven Hospital. She was proud to have been one of the original nurses to have cared for the very first kidney transplant patients so many years ago. She was described by many of her fellow junior nurses as a caring and brilliant mentor as well as a close friend. Sonya also had a passion and love for animals. Over the years, she rescued many a stray cat and gave them a loving home. In her twilight years, she treasured spending time with and caring for her 15-year-old cat "Cuddles". She will certainly miss her daily, meticulous brushings, something Sonya truly loved to do. She was a longtime supporter of ASPCA. Sonya loved to laugh and had a great sense of humor. She loved to watch comedies and humorous tv sitcoms, which were one of her favorite pastimes. In regard to her family, she is predeceased by her husband Robert Frink, her brother Walter Hamuka of New York and her sister Anna Marx of Florida. She leaves to cherish her memory two loving sons, Daniel Rainville of Seymour and Robert Rainville of Meriden, and a stepson Dwight Frink. She also leaves behind her two sisters and one brother, Barbara Turecek of Shelton, CT, James Hamuka of The Villages, FL and Debra Hamuka-Falkenham of Seymour, CT. Sonya leaves behind three granddaughters - Danielle (Rainville) Rosa, Caila Rainville, Alicia (Rainville) Shortell; two grandsons - Mark Rainville and Bobby Rainville; two great grandsons - Robert Rainville and Seth Rosa; one (soon to be) great granddaughter; and two step granddaughters Shelly Frink and Lynn Frink. Sonya was a devout Christian who loved to read her Bible daily. Her love of Christ and her strong belief was the foundation of what made her the unique and wonderful person that she was. She openly shared her devotion to God and led many to know the Word of the Lord. She is certain to have a seat at His table in Heaven. Until we may see you again, know you will be missed and loved for eternity. A private gravesite ceremony will be held for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, please choose a charity of your choice and give generously in remembrance of Sonya, as she was an avid philanthropist. Cemetery Details Riverside Cemetery Shelton
