Thomas D. McCabe of Seymour and formerly of Ansonia entered into eternal rest peacefully on Monday, December 5, 2011 at Griffin Hospital. He was the husband of the late Kathleen McCarthy McCabe. He was born on January 8, 1919 in Ansonia, son of Thomas F. and Elizabeth Gallagher McCabe. Tom attended Assumption School and graduated from Ansonia High School Class of 1937 where he was an outstanding baseball and football player. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater on Saipan, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant and then Technical Sergeant. Tom was a skilled tool & die maker and process engineer with the Stewart Company and retired from Avco Lycoming. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Highland Golf Club and served on the Board of Governors. He was an Active Member of the Charters Hose Company No. 4, AFD, a member and officer of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Avoca Division and the American Legion, Emil Senger Post #10 in Seymour. Tom was a former parishioner of Assumption Church and a parishioner of St. Augustine Church in Seymour, where he was active in church affairs and served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. He is survived by his sisters, Mary McCabe Sheehy of Ansonia and Elizabeth McCabe Hession of Derby; Sister-in Law, Marie Clancy; nephews, Attorney James E. Sheehy, Louis G. Sheehy, Thomas P. Hession, Timothy J. Hession and Edward Clancy; and nieces, Mary Sheehy Navin, Mary Hession Smith, Kathleen Hession Demers, Marjorie Hession, Elizabeth Hession DiMartino and Kathleen Clancy and several great nephews, nieces and great great nephews and great great nieces and his cousins the Jordans and the McCabes. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Tom's memory on Friday, Dec. 9, 2011 At 10:00 AM (DIRECTLY) at St. Augustine Church, 35 Washington Ave., Seymour. Burial with full military honors accorded will be in the family plot at St. Augustine Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call on Thursday from 4 to 7 PM at the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank St. (Rte. 67, across from Klarides Village), Seymour.
