Todd Romagna, age 55, of Oxford, CT, passed away on August 16th after a hard-fought battle with cancer, surrounded by family and friends. He was born on July 6, 1968 in Derby to Guido "Guy" and Elizabeth "Liz" Romagna. Todd Romagna was a man of many virtues, and his generosity knew no bounds. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. Todd was the epitome of a family man. His memory lives on through his family and friends, including the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Bridget (Vakousky), his children, Brittney (Brian Walsh) and Joey Romagna (Kelly Maduri-fiance), his brother, Rick Romagna, sister Gayle Burns (Walt), brother Guy Romagna, his brother-and-sister-in-law, Jeff and Laura (Vakousky) Crane, his niece and nephew, Carley and Chad Crane, and his mother-in-law, Violet Vakousky. He will also be remembered by his dear friends, who were family to him, as well. He was the embodiment of strength. Above all, his legacy lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to love him. He set an example for all to follow - that your story is told through the lives you make better along the way. Todd, a 1986 graduate of Seymour High School, played football alongside his lifelong friends, Joe Stochmal and the "Magnificent Seven," comprised of Steve Prajer, Pat McGrath, Jeffery Andrews, Donald Sosnovich, Tom Sirowich, and Jay Hillman, which he completed. He played Offensive and Defensive line and still ranks number four in the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference for career sacks (45). Todd received a full scholarship to play football at the University of Rhode Island. Todd went on to pursue a career in criminal justice in 1989 at Cheshire Correctional Center and was promoted to Lieutenant in 1992 at the Manson Youth Institution. He joined the Seymour Police Department in 1995 and was promoted to Detective in 2013. While on patrol, Officer Romagna served as the department's K9 Officer, Community Police Officer and was on the department's Emergency Services Unit. He was a D.A.R.E. officer and valued the opportunity to work with youth, serving as a positive role model in the classroom. Throughout his career he received numerous commendations, retiring in 2017. Todd was the Founder and President of Oxford Youth Football and Cheerleading, paving the way for countless others to benefit from the camaraderie and life lessons of youth athletics. He coached Oxford Flag Football, Oxford AYF, and Seymour Pop Warner. A natural leader, Todd was the President of the Seymour Police Union, Commissioner of Oxford Planning and Zoning, and served on the Building Committee for the Oxford High School athletic field. In his personal life, Todd was known for his quick wit and jovial nature. His presence was larger than life, and his laughter easily filled a room. His favorite way to spend his time was with family, spending many afternoons at the house with Bridget, Britt, Brian, Joey, and Kelly, making food and watching his favorite TV shows. He looked forward to watching his kids' sports events, and was always there for the important milestones. He golfed often with his son, Joey, brother-in-law, Jeff, nephew, Chad, and many friends. He loved to talk about current events with his daughter, Britt. He was an avid boater who held a Coast Guard Captain's license and made many memories at Block Island with friends. He enjoyed fishing, especially trying his hand at catching Yellowfin Tuna off the coast of Maine. He vacationed in Damariscotta, Maine every summer with the "Maine Crew" who were like family to him. He loved to talk about sports over a morning cappuccino with his good friends, like the Yankees with Joe LaRovera, or the New York Giants with Doug McAllister. He regularly volunteered his time with several organizations, including the Oxford High School Quarterback Club. Todd owned his own businesses, including Septic Consultants and Oxbury Portalets. Most recently, after retiring from the Seymour Police Department, he worked for Oakbridge Construction as a general contractor.
