Vladimer M. Warecke, 91, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, August 22nd, 2012, at the Alzheimers Resource Center in Plantsville, CT. He formerly resided in Southbury with his son and family for 10 years, Ocala, Fla. for 16 years, and Shelton, CT. most of his life. Val, as he was known to friends and family was born in Shelton on July 30th, 1921, son of Frank and Mary (Skurat) Warecke. He was the loving husband of Mary Rose (Carotenuto) Warecke for 67 years. Val retired from Lacey Tool and Mfg. Co. in 1980 after 40 years of service as a tool and die maker where co-workers lovingly nicknamed him Curly. He was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Oxford, CT., a member of the American Legion Post 24 of Derby, CT. for over 50 years and had an amazing mechanical ability to make or repair just about anything. He was an avid gardener and golfer, often boasting of his 4 holes-in- one, all made after his retirement to Florida. Besides his wife, Mary, he is survived by two children, his son Frank Warecke, Sr. and his wife, Lynn, of Southbury, and his daughter Hilda Layok and her husband John of East Hampton, CT. He also leaves seven grandchildren, Frank Warecke, Jr. and his wife Donna of Bethany, Michael Warecke and his wife Kimberly of Old Lyme, Sean Warecke and his wife Maureen Dowd of Wellfleet, MA. Emily Layok of Boston, MA., Gregory Layok and his wife Kimberly of Chicago, Il., and Rachel and Jason Chiappa of Southbury. Val also leaves six great grandchildren, Jordan and Riley Warecke, Lily Warecke, Samantha Kowal Warecke, and Ali and Christopher Elias. He is survived by one sister-in-law, Mrs.Ann Federico of Ansonia and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Joseph Warecke and Andrew Warecke, and sisters Julia Warecke Oliwa and Olga Warecke Katz. Val will be missed by all those whose lives he touched, and remembered for his love of God and family and his life long positive attitude. In the words of Val Warecke, his favorite phrase was, " every day is a beautiful day." Funeral services will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 733 Oxford Rd., Oxford on, Thursday, August 30th at 11:00AM for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will follow in Mount St. Peter Cemetary, Derby. There will be no calling hours. The family would like to thank the Alzheimer's Resource Center for the wonderful care they provided for Val throughout his residency there.
